Multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology

You are here:

MS is caused by a complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors, among which the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) plays a prominent role. Nevertheless, the mechanisms underlying the association of MS are currently unclear and we thus want to characterize potential mechanisms through which EBV may be involved in the pathogenesis of MS. We are also interested in the characterization and development of diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic biomarkers of MS, which we investigate in a long-term follow-up study of patients with a clinical isolated syndrome together with Prof. Friedemann Paul und Dr. Judith Bellmann-Strobl, NeuroCure Clinical Research Center, Berlin. Finally, we are interested in the clinical and paraclinical characterization of neuroimmunological diseases other than MS, such as neurosarcoidosis, CLIPPERS, and, in particular, neuromyelitis optica (NMO).
